Darkness whirls
streaks of light, shadows
against people’s windows:
are you in?
Can’t you see?
the houses crouching for take-off,
the roads ready to rush up and
knock the streetlight-cops
to the ground.
Telephone wires dart to and fro
eager to catch stars!
are you in?
-Henry Parland, Ideals Clearance (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2007)
